To remain at the forefront of change, Ricoh maintains a fully integrated research and development structure that has accelerated the introduction of innovative products and solutions designed to streamline your business and reduce operating costs. Environmental protection is a key management priority at Ricoh. Ricoh’s commitment to the environment is driven by specific policies on the promotion of recycling and resource conservation, energy saving activities and pollution prevention. Ricoh UK has been awarded ISO14001 for its environmental management systems. Under the philosophy that all employees are global citizens/corporate citizens, the Ricoh Group carries out user-friendly and environment-conscious corporate activities that are aimed at achieving globally sustainable development. The top management of the Ricoh Group states that the Group assumes social responsibility, which a corporate entity should do on a global scale, according to its own key measures and management systems. The Group conducts corporate activities while respecting the culture and customs of the countries and areas in which it operates as well as contributing to regional development. One example of such respect can be found in the Group’s compliance with all laws and international rules and its adherence to the idea that compliance must be observed: environmental conservation activities that protect the precious earth and establish the Group’s position as one of the world's leading manufacturers. In addition, such activities create a strong, trusting relationship between the Group and its customers and help the Group make significant achievements while assuming social responsibilities and making social contributions that are expected of a corporate citizen. Environmental protection is a key management priority at Ricoh. Our products and systems are environmentally conscious because of this commitment. Formal efforts to protect the environment started at Ricoh in 1976, when the company established the Environment Promotion Office. Ricoh UK Ltd’s head office (Feltham) is now officially CarbonNeutral. But what does it mean? Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are one of the main causes of global warming. Unfortunately, we all produce CO2 by driving cars, boiling the kettle, watching TV, even going on holiday. Companies and individuals therefore all have a responsibility to try to reduce their emissions. To that end, Ricoh UK Ltd recently commissioned Future Forests (www.futureforests.com) to audit our head office’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Future Forests is an environmental consultancy that aims to protect the earth and its climate by helping companies reduce or offset their CO2 emissions. They work with a number of companies including Avis, Barclays Bank, EMI and even celebrities and bands such as Coldplay and Dido. Future Forests worked with their science partners, The Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management (ECCM), on the audit. Their assessment covered electricity, gas, company cars, business travel, landfill waste, and refrigerant losses. Trees for life Their final report showed that our CO² emissions were already very good (731 tonnes of CO² / 199 tonnes of carbon). But, to make ourselves CarbonNeutral, we had to "offset" 100% of all our emissions. And we’ve done that with one of Future Forests' woodland schemes - by planting over 19,000 trees. With the help of Future Forests, Ricoh are giving you the opportunity to help you to neutralise some of your CO2 emissions produced by your copying and printing. For every 100,000 pages output from your Ricoh device, we will dedicate a tree for you. Taking part in our tree dedication programme is simple: To qualify you must own one of Ricoh's range of copying or printing devices
